Infancia

Derek Fuhrmann nació y se crio en el condado de Westchester, Nueva York; con sus padres Fred Fuhrmann y Debra Fuhrmann. Derek asistió a la escuela secundaria Byram Hills en Armonk, Nueva York: donde comenzó a cantar y actuar.

Carrera musical

Derek estudió en la Universidad de Delaware. Fue en esa institución donde comenzó a tocar la guitarra y a componer a los 20 años.

Después de que Derek se graduó, su banda universitaria Omnisoul (más tarde llamada The Crash Motive) firmó un contrato discográfico con Wind-up Records. Waiting (Save Your Life) de The Crash Motive y escrita por Fuhrmann, formó parte de la banda sonora de Los cuatro fantásticos, además de aparecer en el programa de televisión de CBS Joan of Arcadia.

En 2011, Fuhrmann firmó un contrato de publicación con Gregg Wattenberg de Arcade Songs y coescribió tres canciones para el séptimo álbum de estudio de O.A.R titulado King, el cual incluía el sencillo Heaven.

Fuhrmann recibió elogios de la crítica por haber escrito el segundo sencillo del ganador de American Idol Phillip Phillips titulado Gone, Gone, Gone en 2012. El sencillo vendió más de 2 millones de copias, alcanzó el número uno en Triple A y radio AC y el número dos en Hot AC. La canción fue la número uno de un total de ocho listas Billboard.. El sencillo le valió a Fuhrmann un ASCAP Pop Award junto a los co-escritores Todd Clark y Gregg Wattenberg por la canción más interpretada del año.

Fuhrmann produjo el primer sencillo del artista independiente Joel Adams titulado Please Don't Go. La canción fue un éxito mundial en quince países. En agosto de 2018, el video musical oficial ha recibido más de 64 millones de reproducciones, El sencillo se ha reproducido 372 millones de veces en Spotify.

Fuhrmann produjo siete canciones para Zombies on Broadway , el segundo álbum de estudio de Andrew McMahon en Wilderness. También escribió Fire Escape , el primer sencillo del álbum. El sencillo llegó al número 4 en Alt Radio de los Estados Unidos.

Fuhrmann coescribió Raging (con Kodaline), el quinto sencillo del álbum debut de Kygo, Cloud Nine. El sencillo fue certificado con Oro en los Estados Unidos (RIAA) y Canadá (Music Canada), con Plata en el Reino Unido y alcanzó el Top 10 en Suecia, Noruega, Hungría, Irlanda y la República Checa.

En 2017, Fuhrmann escribió y produjo So Much More Than This , interpretada por Grace Vanderwaal, ganadora de America's Got Talent, de 13 años de edad. Las características de la pista en su álbum debut Just The Beginning son.
